about us Nitro-Baja-Tattoo-Owner

Carlos, also know as Nitro, had been coming to Cabo for over 25 years. Regular trips with friends to hang out and party evolved in to a real love for the town and eventually he knew he wanted to call Cabo home.

Being born with an artistic ability it was not until when he was in his teens he witnessed a person getting a tattoo.  It was this impression, the expression of art “in the skin” caused what would come to be a life-long passion.

Before Baja Tattoo he had a tattoo shop inside the legendary Cabo Wabo with Jorge Viaña, one of the owners. He spoke to Sammy Hagar who liked the idea of having a shop in his club. They went on to have a very successful business together for almost two years. However, Carlos wanted to have his own place. Being in Cabo Wabo was great, but it was small, very loud and in Carlos’ opinion “not the right experience for my customers.” He wanted a safe, clean environment that focused on the best artists and kind service.

Baja Tattoo was officially opened in 1997 at Plaza de los Mariachis in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. Forward 17 years and Carlos has earned many awards, has worldwide repetitive clients, international traveling artists frequent his studio and appointments are becoming hard to get.

What’s next? “It will be a challenge for me but I want to design and finish a whole body piece. That is what is missing from my portfolio.”

Is your tattoo parlor sanitary? COVID-19 safe? What standards do you follow?

We are fully licensed and in good standing regarding all Mexican Health Codes for this type of facility. This is very important to us and you.

We follow strict COVID-19 policies by the Mexican Department of Health.

We use brand new, clean equipment that is opened in front of you before we start. We also have medical sterilization ultrasonic tanks and autoclaves. Everything is sanitary as this is also most important to the longevity of a good tattoo.

We do not allow smoking, food, or drink in our studio – no exceptions. We do not service customers who are intoxicated or under the influence of any substance.

How many “virgin” tattoo customers do you see on average?

We’d say that at least 50% of our customers are virgins, meaning they come in to get their first tattoo at Baja Tattoo. We are also happy to say that many come back and also tell others to visit us when in Cabo. A referral is a great compliment and probably also what has kept us in business for over 17 years.

How long does it take to get a tattoo?

How long is a piece of string? How much is a car? Again, it all depends on the design, size, colors and detail. Remember, nothing done quickly ever looks great. We are only interested in producing a professional product. If you are limited in time then wait until you have the time to invest. A tattoo is for life and should not be rushed.

Do you have special accommodations for celebrity clients?

Yes, Cabo is a popular destination of many people. We are discreet, accommodate privacy and have a very secure location.  Please contact us to discuss options.

Do I need an appointment? How do I make a reservation?

Appointments are not necessary but are recommended. If you are in Cabo stop in and speak to a staff member as they will be able to work out the best appointment for you. A 20% cash deposit is required for any appointment.

What forms of payment do you take?

We accept cash but can also take Visa, MC and AMEX. Remember all credit card transactions require a 16% MXN IVA state tax (it’s the law). All prices quoted are in USD. We will accept MXN Peso at current daily exchange rate (16). But ya, we do take cash and USD is the best cash we like to take.

How much does a tattoo cost?

All depends on the size, color and location. Our hourly minimum rate is $150.00 USD. You can email in a design for a quote or stop in the shop during business hours to discuss with an artist.

Does a tattoo hurt? What should I expect?

Not really… think of a baby Unicorn kissing, and sucking on your skin. No seriously, it all depends on where you get that tattoo. Some places will be more painful than others. You have to remember that there are needles that are quickly poking your skin while allowing ink to go under 7 layers of skin. Pain will all depend on the location and size.

What are your hours and days of service?

We are open everyday except some holidays. Typical hours are 10 AM to 11 PM. Sundays, we’ll probably close a little earlier.

Where are you located?
